Having a passion: Being passionate & emotional

I’m not talking about passion in the romantic sense, although, I suppose that could go along with this entry as well too…

It seems like if you’re passionate and supportive of something, especially towards something or someone in the entertainment industry (music, dance, etc)… people seem to take it the wrong way or think you’re just a crazy fan when you’re extremely supportive. I’m obsessed (literally OBSESSED) with good music and dance though too. I wish I could be a famous singer and dancer, but it’s not realistic, but I can still completely immerse myself emotionally into a dance piece or a song, to the point of tears. I think it’s because I’m such an emotional person and those 2 things in particular strike my heart strings. Why does it seem like being supportive and passionate towards someone in that sense is sometimes taken the wrong way? A lot of people aren’t quite as passionate as I am about things, but personally, I love being able to recognize someone’s talent and appreciate it enough to go out of my way to acknowledge it & maybe make their day a little better by sharing my positive thoughts towards their work. A lot of people only want to meet someone famous just for bragging rights, but for me, I’ve encountered a few people that I knew were famous, but unless they’ve touched my life personally in some way with their talent, I don’t generally go out of my way just for the sake of an ego boost for them. In the same token, if I meet a random person that is performing in a bar (famous or not)…if I can feel emotionally what they’re sharing with the world, no matter what their level of “fame” is and it can touch my soul, I’m supportive and I want them to know that I support them.

I’ve been told my whole life that I’m “emotional” as if it’s a bad thing, but why shouldn’t we be vulnerable and emotional towards other people? Why do we shut that side of ourselves off? If everyone shut themselves off from emotions and feelings, I feel like there would be a lot less music and entertainment in the world. I feel like if more people had more passion & went after their passions, we probably would live in a much more loving & creative world. That’s one thing I love about living in Nashville. There is a level of “family” & love and support. Chances are, if you’re a regular in any given bar downtown, then you know A LOT of people. That’s part of why I could never truly see myself living away from Nashville. I’ve never gotten that “feeling” anywhere else and even in big concerts, you get lost in the crowd. In Nashville, people care and will go out of their way to to thank you for being supportive of their gift to the world & seem to genuinely appreciate the support.

In a world that is so self-involved, I think we could use a little bit more passion, emotion & appreciation towards other people.

I have always been told I'm emotional. I've even been told I'm "too" emotional. Well, phooey to that. Being emotional means I'm in tune to my feelings and I'm not afraid to feel them or express them. So, if someone says I'm an emotional person, I'm going to respond by saying, "Thank you!! I AM an emotional person and I'm not afraid to admit that fact.".

I love that response! 🙂 I wish I could not care so much about what other people think about me.

Love this post! I agree with everything you said. It is so true that people think you are crazy if you go out of your way for an artist you enjoy. There are people I know that have traveled across the country to see famous people. I have a semi-famous friend who does small shows in the NY NJ area and he goes out of his way to talk to everyone that goes to the shows. I actually wrote a blog about him. I called it "Make That Day Today" if you want to check it out. Art is emotional and life would be boring without it.
